Edel Rodriguez visually realizes the manic intellectual world of mid-20th century writer Arthur Koestler for a book review in the December issue of The Atlantic. Koestler, says the article, was written off as "a much afflicted scribe of his time, greedy for pleasure, haunted by guilt, who enjoyed a short vogue and was then forgotten." (more)

Chris Gash’s weekly illos for the Business and Science sections of the NY Times challenge him to keep it fresh, for both the reader and himself, on a regular basis.  For On the Road last week Chris incorporated a photo to illustrate how business travelers are hassled to keep receipts for everything in the face of impending IRS audits in 2010. Doug Panton has been awarded a silver medal in the category of Illustration Professional and a merit in the category of Fine Art Professional in the up-coming Creative Quarterly 18, the magazine recognizing global excellence in graphic design, illustration, photography and fine art. All medal and merit winners will be exhibited in the next issue of CQ, due out in April 2010. (more)

We love seeing Chris Gash's deceptively simple take on things each week in the New York Times.  This week’s work includes the “On the Road” column wich was inspired by the movie “Up in the Air,” about the secret, ultra-elite class of airline customers who are offered the best, unadvertised perks. (Something we know nothing about…)

Steven Salerno just received his advance copy of "Pantaloon," the 1951 Little Golden Book classic that he re-illustrated for 2010 release by Random House. The story is about an energetic poodle who is determined to become the Baker's new assistant, and will stop at nothing to do so... (more)

Canadian artist Carl Wiens' illustrations can be found worldwide, but there is plenty going on in his own backyard that keeps him busy as well. When the Olympic torch passed through his Prince Edward County community on its way to the Vancouver 2010 games, Carl was proud to contribute the illustrations for the celebrations guide, to be held at the Crystal Palace on the town's fairgrounds.
