Alex Nabaum created this image for a New York Times article on Medicare and doctors cyclical problem of readmitting patients to hospitals. The art director suggested, among other things, using a hospital bracelet as a symbol, but what to do with it?

Alex created a fast series of brainstorming thumbnails. “The AD picked the infinite loopish one and introduced me to its actual name: the mobius strip.”

Below is a detailed line drawing that Alex chose NOT to use in the final. “The artwork seemed to feel deeper and more interesting with just a hint of line.”
