Stephen Savage's timeless and tender children's book illustrations have earned him the honor of creating images for a previously unpublished story by Margaret Wise Brown, “The Fathers Are Coming Home.”

Margaret Wise Brown was the author of some of the most beloved and enduring children’s books of the 20^th century, including “Goodnight Moon,” “The Runaway Bunny” and “The Little Fur Family.” In honor of the centennial of Brown’s birth in May, 2010, this recently discovered manuscript will finally see publication.

Brown wrote “The Fathers Are Coming Home” as a welcome-home to the men returning from World War II. It seems especially poignant that this book is coming out now, as we find ourselves in another period of international conflict. Stephen Savage’s lush illustrations in simple, colorful block print are reminiscent of the great illustrators of Brown’s early works – Clement Hurd, Leonard Weisgard, and the Provensens.
