TOPDOG ILLUSTRATION: IT’S ALL ABOUT CODE
April 6, 2010

Why do cars speed out of control?  According to these infographics for Coverity by TopDog Illustration, it’s sometimes a line of code that’s to blame. Coverity can analyze software code to find conflicts and avoid issues like these from happening.

First, a graphic to explain how much code is in a single software component and within that code, there are a trillion possibilities that one piece of code may conflict with another piece of code.

Second, explain that the complexity increases when you add several software components from multiple suppliers and all of these different products have to successfully interact with each other.

Third, illustrate these software components interacting with each other within an automobile and that the total amount of code in an individual automobile when printed out would equal the height of a 50-story building.

And finally, show that traditional ways of code testing, such as manual and scenario, can only achieve about 50% coverage. Coverity’s Software Integrity Analysis is the only way to ensure 100% coverage of the entire code base.
