James O’Brien was commissioned to by the College of Visual Arts to create a cover image for their Lifelong Learning brochure. James chose to represent learning in an abstract, decorative manner. A pattern from the cover is repeated within the brochure.

The seemingly effortless beauty of the artwork is actually a product of much thought, thumbnailing and design work.

“After twenty or so thumbnails, I decided to let the pattern determine the image and arrived at a silhouette profile with a star and circle pattern representing synapses within the brain while simultaneously suggesting space, giving it a bit of a sci-fi feel.”
