Here is a first peek at Jamie Hogan’s latest book, in collaboration with writer Robin Hansen, “Ice Harbor Mittens.” Published by Down East, in Maine, it tells the story of Josie, an 11 year-old who wants to be a sternman on his cousin's lobster boat.

A resident of Maine’s beautiful Peaks Island, Jamie staged her reference photos back in February. “It was relevant immersion to walk the dog on a frosty morning and then return to my studio to make winter scenes.”

Jamie also used her island neighbors as models: this is Finn, the basis for Josie in the book. He is wearing mittens sent specifically by the author, which are the focus of the story, as well as many of Jamie’s illustrations.
