Scott Brundage was contacted by Delaware Today Magazine to illustrate an article on "Race To The Top Funding." The art director’s suggestion was to convey a group effort to get a child to succeed.  Scott worked up a few ideas:

The AD chose Scott’s favorite and he went to work, pushing the drama of the lighting to convey the sense of uplift.

“I knew I wanted the only pure white to be the very corner where the sun was shining to really push the heat of it,” explains Scott. “Once that was achieved, realistic color elsewhere wasn't as important. The final result is among the more dramatic paintings I've created, but a blast to make.”
