Marty Braun has just completed another terrific poster image for Portland Stage (Portland, ME). “The Center of Gravity,” is historical fiction, a whimsical look at the Wright Brothers and how things might have gone. The Wright brothers never married in real life. But suppose there was a woman, and that they could never quite figure out the problems with their flyer, and well, just the fact that they were brothers.

The image that comes immediately to mind when you hear "Wright Brothers" is the famous photo taken at Kitty Hawk. (Besides flying, the brothers were also interested in then-new photography and took hundreds of view-camera photos to record their flyer's progress).

“I wanted the look of that iconic photo to set the place and event for people seeing the poster, but added the out of scale Margot to signal that this play wouldn't exactly be the Wright Brothers of history,” explains Marty. “A poster is always an exciting challenge, and it's fun to see my work around town, and LARGE!”
