CATHI MINGUS: FIONA’S SLEEPOVER DISASTER
May 10, 2011

Cathi Mingus uses an action-packed scene like this one from Fiona’s Sleepover Disaster to demonstrate her relatively simple sketch process.

“I start by sketching rough ideas with a soft pencil on tracing paper. Once I get a few I like, I do a little tighter trace with a fine sharpie,” explains Cathi.

“Once the sketch is approved I scan it and fill in the color in Photoshop.  I like to make patterns and save them to use in clothing, floors, walls, etc. Sometimes I add a couple of little details like a headband, etc. I try to keep the final art as close to the sketch as possible.”

“That's it...pretty darn simple!”
