Daniel Hertzberg shares a couple of the recent assignments that have kept him busy in the magazine world.  This image of a shattered disco ball for Time Out Chicago recalls the 2003 E2 nightclub stampede in which 21 people were killed.

“The art director wanted a broken heel in the center of the cover, with crime scene tape around along the side,” recalls Daniel. “But I tried a couple with a disco ball and the broken disco ball sketch was chosen.”

For an article on Internet gambling, Daniel’s solution was a perfectly simple visual semaphore.

“The @ of spades was the piece chosen, but I decided to take the ethernet jack dice sketch to final too,” says Daniel. Sketches are below.
