This is a story about a little bird with a broken wing and a challenging winter fast approaching. He looks for shelter among the trees while all of his winged friends fly south to warmer climates. Richard Downs’ first solo show of more than 20 new monotypes and paintings, "Couples,” opens this month at Sacramento Temporary Contemporary Gallery. Following in the footsteps of Paul Klee and Mexican artist, José Luis Cuevas, Richard creates contemporary images of "Couples" embraced in archetypal relationships. (more)

Richard Downs’ monotype for the Sea Turtle Restoration Project was licensed for reuse by Courrier International magazine in Paris to accompany their story about endangered sea turtles in Vietnam. “Moral of the story?” says Richard, “Do personal work that you care about and it will find an audience."
