JEFFREY SMITH: PULP HISTORY

October 5, 2010

Noir watercolorist extraordinaire Jeffrey Smith teamed up with writer Gary Kamiya to produce “Shadow Knights,” the story of the men and women who fought a secret war against Adolf Hitler and the Nazis.

The scope of the project was important enough to travel, so on June 15, 2009 Smith went to Paris, armed with a list of addresses. Visiting the locations provided the grit he needed to stay focused on a project that would take seven-and-a-half months to complete.

Smith researched thousands of photographs and shot 567 photos of his own to produce 22 photographic comps, many more sketches, and finally, 22 full page paintings, and two covers.
