CHRIS GASH: LYMEAID

June 10, 2011

For this Phoenix New Times cover, Chris Gash had to run with the idea behind a not yet completed story: a clinic that uses futuristic headgear for their diagnostics, but it’s sort of pseudoscience-y, and they think everyone has Lyme disease…

Medical, futuristic, pseudoscience, ticks… here was Chris’s initial batch of sketches:

“They liked the digital mapping tick-man, the da Vinci and the circuitry sketches, but asked if I would develop the circuit idea more,” says Chris. “The next day I sent these, which I was happy with and thought for sure I was closing in on a winner…”

But after a discussion with the writer, it turns out that the da Vinci was closest to the mark for the tone of the finished article. Hence, the final cover, see top.
