JOHN TOMAC: OUTRUNNING CANCER

June 6, 2011

John Tomac had the rare opportunity to create an autobiographical piece for the July issue of Runner's World. John was diagnosed with Leukemia in September 2009 and a little over a year later ran and finished the New York City Marathon in under 3 hours. The story was a perfect fit for the issue, which focused on the intersection of running and cancer. GO JOHN!

“On marathon day I smiled for 26.2 miles, until I saw my time… 2:57:34! ‘Damn, slower than my last marathon.’  A year earlier I was worried about dying. Now I was griping about a race.  Yes, things were back to normal.”
