SHAW NIELSEN: GIFT TRADITIONS

Shaw Nielsen’s witty illustrations for Mental Floss magazine accompany an article about four different gift giving traditions around the world. For example, in Japan you’re supposed to discreetly open any presents you get after everyone has left like some kind of stealth ninja:

In Brazil you shouldn’t give someone anything wrapped in the color purple because the color purple is associated with death:

When in Egypt, double wrap your presents. The outside should be a simple paper with no patterns and the inner paper a more brightly colored:

In Russia it’s perfectly acceptable for your gift to show up late:
