ANNA + ELENA BALBUSSO ILLUSTRATION: SEXUAL ASSAULT ON CAMPUS

Anna + Elena Balbusso illustrated “Can't Thread a Moving Needle” for Santa Clara University Magazine, an article detailing how the school addresses the issue of sexual assault on campus with a playwriting project turned film. Actors recount real, uncensored stories of sexual assault from college campuses across the country, making the film intentionally uncomfortable to watch.

Director and Professor Michael Whalen says, “To do the victims justice, you have to be truthful. To change a harmful culture, you have to shatter it. But very often we don't have the ability to talk with a survivor—or in some way experience what they experienced—so we have genuine empathy. With art, we are able to delve into the emotion and not just the logic of the situation.”
