JAMES FRYER ILLUSTRATION: EDUCATION + POLITICS

James Fryer’s illustrations for two UK education publications both involve governmental interference. The first, for the Times Education Supplement, accompanied an article about the many female Education Secretaries within government who “get the axe” before they are truly able to make their mark on the job.
The second illustration, for the Times Higher Education magazine opinion section, addressed the UK's Home Office threats to deport EU academy research fellow Eva Johanna Holmberg. Academics in the UK are already troubled by myriad uncertainties and pressures. Making the EU citizens among them feel like strangers in a hostile environment is too much.
