Carl Wiens thoroughly enjoyed this assignment, from OnEarth Magazine, to illustrate an article on the rise of bamboo as the material of the future.  It has been in use for a long time in construction, furniture, and food; now high-end bicycle builders are crafting their own custom frames from bamboo. Carl Wiens has been illustrating spots for Vancouver magazine's Panorama section for the past four years and still going strong. “These run at about 1" square, so there is always a premium of distilling images down to their simplest form.
