ZARA PICKEN FOR TIME MAGAZINE

Zara Picken was recently commissioned by TIME to illustrate two articles. The first, reflecting on a writer's experience with divorce. The author uses mathematical metaphors to discuss division and subtraction in the aftermath of divorce. The second illustration addresses pervasive challenges that poor people face, as well as the sacrifices children have to endure. The author reflects on her experiences using food stamps seven years ago as a college student, feeling ashamed and judged when buying treats for her child.
