John S. Dykes was commissioned by Tattoo Projects in Charlotte, NC to create a series of illustrations for the Sheetz "quality just got a kick in the beanz" campaign to appear on coffee dispensers in their chain of 500 convenience stores (located in the Mid-Atlantic States). (more)

Dykes was commissioned by American University to illustrate a series of illustrations commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.  John created a cover plus three and a half spreads in a sketchbook style, utilizing portraits, spots, and hand lettering to provide an overview of major moments in our country’s history.  (more)

Dykes has embarked on an ambitious, multi-media project, The Daily Reportrait.  Portrait illustrations of contemporary figures created daily (mostly) are accompanied by a hand-lettered fact, rumor, complete falsehood, or otherwise illuminating highlight of the character portrayed, and are designed to enlighten and entertain.
