Jean Francois Podevin’s cover and interior images for CACM magazine explore the subject of the biology of "reactivity," showing how the construx of living organisms can help us design new technologies. For instance, the molecular structure of heart tissues can help us design new artificial fibers that are indestructible.
Alternative, unpublished covers show how an insect "flying" mechanism can lead to advances in aerospace technology. These visual concepts combine man-made and natural structures to show their common ground.
