KEVIN SPROULS: THE ART OF DEMOTIVATION

January 21, 2013

Kevin Sprouls, the original portrait artist from the Wall Street Journal, was commissioned by the folks at Despair, Inc. to create a series of illustrations for their book, “The Art of Demotivation,” a satirical romp through the world of business.

“All told, I did 18 stipple illustrations, including a hedcut portrait of the author, E.L. Kersten, PH.D., pictured here,” says Kevin. Following is a partial collection of the stipple art in the book, complete with their witty titles… Enjoy.

AMBITION: “The journey of a thousand miles sometimes ends very, very badly.”

MEDIOCRITY: “It takes a lot less time and most people won’t notice the difference until it’s too late.”

DEMOTIVATION: “Sometimes the best solution to morale problems is just to fire all of the unhappy people.”

ACHIEVEMENT: “You can do anything you set your mind to when you have vision, determination, and an endless supply of expendable labor.”

DYSFUNCTION: “The only consistent feature of all your dissatisfying relationships is you.”
