SAM CHIVERS FOLLOWS THE MYSTERY

Sam Chivers counterfoils the constraints and demands of illustrating on a freelance basis by making his own images in the gaps between projects, or sometimes working on them for just an hour or so in the evening. "As an artist I'm attracted to a sense of mystery in my work so the exact motivation or specific meaning of this image is left deliberately ambiguous," says Sam. "But there are specific strands of themes such as departure, national identity, ruins and personal history."
