JEAN FRANCOIS PODEVIN FOR THE WASHINGTON POST

December 19, 2022

Jean-Francois Podevin's illustration series for The Washington Post accompanied a feature about artificial intelligence. This full page allegorical digital cover art opens a story about an A.I. research scientist who has created a system which allows A.I. to brass through the immensity of human knowledge in every language, and evolve from its own computing power.

The evolution of A.I. has given birth to a diversity of highly sophisticated weapons, that can analyze, strategize, as well as search and destroy any given target. J-F wanted to depict the alien ominous and non-human character of such machines, not to mention their destructive power.

This final image represents the early warning to Congress, by an academic named Philip Agre, of what would eventually become the “dark-net,” also the dark side of Artificial Intelligence.
