Here is a recent painting for Smithsonian Magazine of the Harvard astronomer and physicist, Avi Loeb. Among his many accomplishments he discusses the idea that we might discover other livable planets out there. His search for intelligent life elsewhere is compelling and I wanted to show both his pleasant whimsy and harken to a long history of scientists depicted in art history.
