EDEL RODRIGUEZ: THE SHAME OF SERBIA

Edel Rodriguez’ powerful image dominates the Op Ed page of today’s New York Times, illustrating a piece on the arrest of Serbian war criminal, Ratko Mladic. Politicians in Serbia want to move on and be considered for membership in the European Union, but the writer feels that many Serbs still sympathize with Mladic and that the country is losing a chance to open a painful but necessary debate about the past.
Edel’s sketch process worked with the idea of removing a stain or washing hands:
