JAMES FRYER ILLUSTRATES THE NEGATIVE OF POSITIVE DISCRIMINATION

James Fryer's latest opinion illustration for the Times Higher Education magazine accompanied an article about "positive discrimination," which is the act of giving advantage to those groups in society that are often treated unfairly because of their race, sex, etc. When Aymen Idris was told his success was simply because he ticked the ethnic diversity box, he made the decision to return a prize he was so proud to receive eight years ago. If his gesture starts a serious debate over the role of positive discrimination in academia, it will be worth it.
