DOUG CHAYKA FOR LIBERAL EDUCATION MAGAZINE

Doug Chayka created a series of illustrations for Liberal Education Magazine, featuring "The Power of Proximity: Embodying Anti-Racist Learning." A professor at Concordia College, details how one of the biggest challenges she faces as a White professor teaching mostly White students to recognize and challenge racial oppression is the comfortable distance from racism’s dehumanizing effects. This distance makes it difficult to develop the intellectual understanding, emotional habits, and moral sensibilities necessary to be anti-racists.
