CHIARA VERCESI COVERS THE LANCET RHEUMATOLOGY

February 2, 2024

Chiara Vercesi shares her new illustration for The Lancet Rheumatology's February's cover article, which talks about sarcoidosis, a rare autoimmune condition that causes small patches of swollen tissue, called granulomas, to develop in the body's organs.

During her research, Chiara noticed that, especially for women, the aesthetic perception of this condition can be a major challenge. She made it the point of this illustration to convey a sense of beauty and empowerment. By relying on the visual association between the cherry blossoms and Sarcoidosis-caused skin rash, she wanted to create a powerful yet delicate portrait.
