MATT ROTA FOR THE TRANSNATIONAL INSTITUTE

February 29, 2024

Matt Rota illustrated a feature on Sri Lanka for The Transnational Institute. Historically reliant on hydroelectric power, the nation has been unable to supply enough energy for its population. Instead, it relies on larger regional powers like China and India, as well as the US, all of whom compete for influence in Sri Lanka due to its strategic location. The larger portion of their population would like a to secure a future reliant on renewable energy, but are at the mercy of larger rivalries between these nations and as a result have little say over the impact these energy suppliers have on the environment.
