JAMES FRYER VISUALIZES VOICE DONORS

James Fryer created two illustrations for Times Educational Supplement magazine to accompany an article on "Helping students love the sound of their own voice." Students with complex needs, who must use a communication device for speech, are also provided with regional accents, distinct sounds and expressions that add up to a personal voice. This is a massive effort of many parts, but the most important piece of the puzzle is finding the Voice Donor - a person willing to give up many, many hours of their time to record thousands of words.

Funding the project has been incredibly challenging. Unless a huge amount of finance is found, many students who use such devices will not get the chance to benefit from having their own individual voice.
