FRANK STOCKTON ILLUSTRATES BANKSY

March 4, 2024
One of my favorite illustrations from 2023 was this full page illustration for California Freemason.
The prompt for the story was about a Freemason’s lodge in Northern California that was tagged with what appeared to be a stencil by your mom’s favorite street artist (Turned out to be a fake!).
One of the first things I did for this job was go into my garage and make a mock-up of the Lodge using wood scraps, cardboard, hot glue, and my son’s toy cars. I used the photographs of my mock-up to get the perspective right. It might have been faster to use a 3d program but I already spend too much time at the computer.
The client was happy with how this came out and later asked me to do an illustration with a lot of cars and perspective and other hard to draw stuff. This is what I call getting paid to practice.

Frank Stockton shares a recent full-page editorial illustration about a Northern California Freemason’s lodge getting tagged by Banksy. Frank made a mock-up out of toy cars, cardboard and scrap wood to use as photo reference.
