TIM O'BRIEN PAINTS LINCOLN & THE WIDE-AWAKES

March 27, 2024

Tim O'Brien's latest illustration for Smithsonian Magazine depicts a little-known episode on Abraham Lincoln's path to the White House. Their issue was insisting on the abolition of slavery, and they saw Abraham Lincoln as the leader who could do it. This 1860 march coincided with Lincoln's campaigning in Hartford.
